The 701 Enduro reaches the next level of versatility. Bred from decades of enduro world championship-winning pedigree and mixed with over a century of motorcycle expertise, the 701 Enduro combines high performance with typical Swedish functionality in a stylish and modern design.
I recently test rode the 701 and it put the biggest grin on my face. It totally reminded me of why I started riding motorcycles & scooters 32 years ago. Fun! Around 8 months ago I bought a 1985 Suzuki DR600 as I'd been keen to move off the tarmac and explore some of the local trails and green lanes. However, like all classic bikes they come with their own idiosyncrasies and the DR is no exception. Kick starting a 600cc dual sport bike whilst stuck in a 4x4 rut is exhausting! So I did some research for a modern dual sport bike that can cope with the road and a few easy going trails plus the reliability of a modern bike. The 701 came up and looked like a pretty good contender. I've read mixed reviews in terms of it being an all out toy, along with being the perfect combination of on & off road, a good light weight adventure bike. Both good in my opinion.
“This bike is for anyone who wants to ride moderately technical off-road trails, fast fire roads, two-track, twisty highways, and the freeway all in the same day, all on the same bike.”
I'm aware it has a seat like a razor blade and no screen, however, having ridden scooters long distance touring, Spain, Sweden, Germany & Ireland to mention a few, this doesn't put me off. I did a search for a local dealer and found Freestyle in Wadhurst, went along on the off chance of a test ride & they let me take one out for a few hours. The first thing I noticed was the weight, it was so light compared to the other bikes I ride. It was so agile and easy to maneuver. I can see this being the perfect bike for how I currently ride, blasting around country lanes, ripping up some trails and the odd dual carriage way. Having said that this is no everyday bike, it’s an impractical, yet excessively exciting toy, and I love it.
